Last month we told you about Operation Red Nose’s kickoff to the 2019 holiday season as it once again offers seasonal celebrators a safe, free way to get home after any festive outings they may be attending in the Brandon area.
Today local organizer Gladden Smith shared that the initiative’s Brandon-area Red Nose has seen a meaningful increase in local folks making use of their services, a total of 196 rides or a 12.6% increase over the same period last year.
Operation Red Nose offers patrons a ride home in their own vehicle by sending out teams of three volunteers to locations within a 30km radius of Brandon. One is then driven in their own car to a requested drop off point within the same area. Rides are offered for free with donations accepted for Brandon youth sports organizations.
Three more days of service will be offered this year including this coming Friday and Saturday, December 20 and 21 as well as New Years Eve. To call to book a ride you can call 204-728-6673 between 9pm and 2am on days of operation.
Due to the typically high demand on the 31st, extra volunteers are currently being sought for that night. On top of volunteers paying a part in helping keep roads safe and being well-taken care of with food and drink by sponsors, a draw is to be held on the 31st of all volunteers. Prizes up for grabs include Winnipeg Jets tickets, a one night stay at Canad Inns and movie theatre passes. To sign up to help out please call 204-728-6673 between 10am and 2pm on weekdays.
