Folks reading this section in recent weeks will be all too aware of some of the great skating options we have in Brandon this winter.
Now a new locally shot video going viral today across various social media platforms is showcasing for much of the continent a charming outdoor skating option just a stone’s throw away from the city in our own backyard.
Shot in Wasagaming/Clear Lake the video shows a young 7-year-old Brandon boy skating through “the woods” in the area of Wasagaming as part of an interconnected skating path that’s setup alongside a larger outdoor ice surface in the area:
The video was originally shared by Brandon’s J & G Homes just prior to Christmas in response to a call out from hockey personality Darren Dreger for Twitter followers to share pictures of outdoor rinks. It has since been shared by the National Hockey League’s social media accounts, amassing more than 200,000 views on Instagram, 100,000 on Facebook and 50,000 on Twitter as of the time of this posting.
The timing couldn’t be better, with the NHL set to host this year’s edition of the Winter Classic outdoor game from Dallas’ Cotton Bowl Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The annual game is often used as a way to showcase the sport’s roots, where young players are known to hone their skills on outdoor rinks and just about anything that freezes!
