Westman Communications Group Internet customers throughout the region will be on the receiving end of a speed boost in the days ahead as the company prepares to flick the switch on meaningful upgrade to its infrastructure.
Beginning on Saturday all customers will see the download speeds associated with their plans increased, a WCG representative shared with me on Wednesday. Those with the companyâs base âXstream12â plan will see maximum download speeds increased from 12Mbps to 15Mbps. Comparable increases are being applied across the board on up to "Xstream150" plan increasing from 150 Mbps to 160 Mbps.
Some plans will also see improvements to upload speeds, with an e-mail distributed to customers this week having explained details related to the plan in use with their account.
Also soon-to-be introduced will be a 300 Mbps option, which will serve as the new fastest-available speed in areas served by whatâs known as hybrid fibre. Within Brandon, WCG currently offers a top-of-the-line Infinite Gigabit internet service as part of its Fibre-to-the-home technology.
On its website, WCG notes the disclaimer that actual speeds may vary and are not guaranteed.
The upgrade, which will apply to customers both in and outside of Brandon, will take place automatically overnight on Friday. Over that time WCG personnel will reboot customer modems during low usage time, with new speeds planned to be in place by Saturday morning.
