A building under construction at 12th Street and Richmond Avenue in the vicinity of the city’s South Boston Pizza location is the planned future site of Brandon’s Service Canada Centre, a spokesperson for Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.
When complete and in operation next year, the new location will offer the same services as the present Downtown Brandon Service Canada Centre as outlined at https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/corporate/portfolio/service-canada.html
The new location is said to have been chosen in alignment with the Government of Canada’s leasing strategy, allowing a new long-term lease of a property constructed to modern standards.
The location was chosen via Public Services and Procurement Canada’s standard leasing process that saw local building owners invited to tender to bed. Through the leasing process the 12th and Richmond location was selected from multiple bids as part of a proposal from Brandon’s CDE Management that included construction of a new building.

Current Princess Avenue home to Brandon’s Service Canada Centre
The 46,603 square foot Downtown building that houses the existing Service Canada Centre location at 1039 Princess Avenue is currently listed as for sale at an asking price of $3.7M.
When complete, no changes are planned for the 12th and Richmond intersection as part of site access according to a spokesperson for the City of Brandon Engineering Department since proposed use does not meet minimum traffic volumes to require a study. Access can also be gained via 13th Street and Ottawa Avenue.
Construction on the new Richmond Avenue building is scheduled for completion on October 26th with first day of operations expected to be April 1st, 2021.
