Manitobans will see a reduction in the Provincial Sales Taxes this coming summer, a media release from the Government of Manitoba shared on Thursday morning.
Beginning on July 1, the PST will be reduced to six percent from the current seven. The Canada Day reduction co-incides with the implementation of a $25 per tonne Green Levy that will come in place on the same day as a Provincial solution aimed at reducing Greenhouse gas emissions, revenue from which will be used to make the PST cut possible. The Province estimates that the day's changes will result in net savings to families and businesses in Manitoba of more than one billon dollars over the coming five years.
The reduced PST takes place 12 months after last year's July 1 reduction from eight percent, a tax amount that had been in place since 2013. The six percent rate matches that charged in neighbouring Saskatchewan.
