More details learned on upcoming Kam Lung return

Posted by Adam in Dining, 3/10/2020

Nearly three weeks after signage installed at a Park Avenue restaurant location appeared to foreshadow the return of a long-time local favourite in Asian food, the picture is slowly starting to come into focus on what looks to be the imminent return of Kam Lung restaurant to the Wheat City.

While no formal announcement has been made and details could not be confirmed with local management, signage posted on-site at the under-renovation location at 1650 Park Avenue looks to give a window into what can be expected on the menu and how it might differ from the previous Victoria Avenue iteration of the restaurant.

Signage identifies Chinese, Japanese and Filipino cuisine as a focus, which would represent a broadening in offerings beyond the Cantonese food that Kam Lung had been known for under past long-time management. The same signage highlights All You Can Eat and Breakfast offerings, though it’s unclear which instances might involve buffet and which would involve ordering from a menu.

Though the menu is not known, food of the Philippines in particular has the potential to be a unique addition to that currently available at local eateries with photos associated with the restaurant showing as possibilities what appear to be traditional Filipino dishes such as Sisig, Lechon Kawali and Kare-Kare.

Kam Lung was purchased by Patrick and Nan Sun in 2010 from long-time owner Sergio Lee before closing in 2018 and seeing a Kim’s Asian Restaurant open in its place at its former Victoria Ave location. Sun is believed to be opening the new Park Ave restaurant under the name Kam Lung Asian Cuisine.

No timeline for opening could be learned at present, though a March date is believed likely with work having been noted to be regularly taking place at the site since signage was installed last month.
