Since 2003, Westman Immigrant Services has provided critical service to newcomers to mainly Brandon and the immediate area. Today it was announced that those services have been further expanded throughout Southwestern Manitoba with the addition of new offices and partnerships within the region.
Beginning on April 1st the organization saw its services offered further throughout the broader Southwestern Manitoba region via the adoption of offices in Virden and Russell that will see settlement services, information programming and school programming extended to new areas within the region. As well a partnership with the Roblin Cartwright Community Development Corporation will see offerings including programming, support. English assessment and classes made available in Cartwright, Killarney and Boissevain.
Last year WIS helped more than 2500 settlement clients and aided more than 500 English students.
In light of social distancing measures in place alongside the COVID-19 pandemic, WIS had earlier this month temporarily suspended in-person services in favour of remote delivery of service. Plans are in place to re-open by the middle of next week.
