Nearly two months to the day after it was announced that construction of Brandon’s new K-8 School was placed on hold, the Brandon School Division announced today the selection of a new contractor to complete the project.
The Division and Province have come to terms with Aviva Insurance Company (surety holder of the bonds for the school), who has hired Penn-Co Construction Canada Ltd. to complete the work.
According to the Division the school is expected to be complete for January 2021, approximately four months later than the initially scheduled September date. As a result students will remain in their current schools for the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year before transferring to Maryland Park in January. Maryland Park staff will be distributed to those schools in the interim.
So long as students have already registered for Maryland Park, they will be automatically assigned to their current catchment area school with no additional registration required. Those who have not yet registered with Maryland Park will be required to contact their current school.
Maryland Park Principal Barbara Miller will co-ordinate directly with families.
Penn-co construction has offices in Blumenort and Winnipeg. Construction had begin in February 2019 by Winnipeg-based Fresh Projects and was halted in early March 2020.
