Following May’s installation of play structure elements and rubber play surface, the fence has come down and public access now permitted to Brandon’s newest playground.
Located at the Riverbank Discovery Centre property, the Westman Dreams for Kids Accessibility Park features accessible variations of popular playground items including a teeter totter, spinner and numerous interactive ground-level games and activities that provide an opportunity for kids of all abilities to play.
The new park is located directly across from the Riverbank’s existing playground, making for a true destination play zone for kids at the city’s primary outdoor space. The present public health environment requires that physical distancing be practiced throughout the Riverbank property as per signage posted throughout.
A few finishes touches remain, including installation of donor information signage as well as playground fencing that is to be installed around both of the property’s play areas. New grass seed has been planted in areas surrounding the new park, with it being requested that visitors try to play around that newly seeded area in order to give it the best possible chance to grow.
In lieu of the present pandemic response, a grand opening is expected to take place at a future to-be-determined date when safe.
The Westman Dreams for Kids Accessibility Park happened in large part thanks to a $67,000 donation from Brandon’s J & G Group of Companies and this week a $30,000 donation from the Brandon Area Community Foundation.
