You may have noticed during the fall the mural in the picture above popping up on Rosser Avenue Downtown. When coupled with the work of art behind the skateboard park and even the large scene on Superstore’s West wall it makes for a nice little bit of added personality to our city.
Based on a request for proposals sent out this week, Downtown walls are about to really come to life this spring with as many as five new murals being solicited for various pre-selected walls in the core.
It’s already kind of neat to see the few walls that are currently painted, but there’s a point where there would be such a critical mass of them that it all becomes something quite special. For anyone that’s been to a town that’s had a coordinated collection of murals go up (for example Chemainus, BC among many others I’m sure) it’s fun to picture the vibe of a downtown with the added personality that would come with a new unique creation everywhere you turn.
As part of the plan the mural behind the skateboard park would also be re-done, making for a total of up to six new murals. You can read more on the current request for proposals at:
