As the third Monday of the New Year, today has become known as “Blue Monday.” Psychologically speaking it’s said that this is the least optimal of the year when taking into account variables such as length of time since Christmas, time for New Years resolutions to have perhaps not worked out and of course weather.
On the topic of weather, as a reminder of the fact that your surroundings are what you make of them I present you with the Green Spot’s mature banana plant.
Although she’s taking a year off from fruiting, this same plant last growing season put out some pretty great flowers that eventually during the winter produced a bountiful crop of locally grown bananas. Taste said to be so much better fresh than what you come home from the grocery store with. Before being cut back to allow for new growth the plant last season had reached about 12 feet tall and would seem to be on its way there again.
If you’d like a chance to show Mother Nature that Westman isn’t as far away from Costa Rica as she thinks, the Green Spot had quite a few younger cousins to this “Dwarf Cavendish” variety banana plant in stock as of a few days ago for just under $15.
