Local restaurant nets chain's award for Franchisee of the Year

Posted by Adam in Dining, 8/25/2020

A national restaurant chain’s one and only Westman location has been on the receiving end of a prestigious honour among its peers from coast-to-coast.

Mary Brown’s Chicken has awarded its Franchisee of the Year award to Linda and Tony Strickland, operators of Brandon’s 18th’s street eatery.

The honour, which was awarded this past Friday, is based on the 2019 calendar year and takes into accounts factors such as same store sales growth, guest sentiment scores and a Brand and Safety Food Compliance audit according to the Stricklands.

Mary Brown’s currently has 170 locations across Canada including ten in Manitoba. Later this week will mark two years since the opening of the Brandon location, which employs 18.

The Stricklands originally moved to Brandon from Newfoundland in 1998, later relocating to Fort McMurray. After losing everything in the Fort McMurray wildfire, a return to Brandon was in the cards alongside the opening of the restaurant in 2018.

Customers in Brandon are currently able to order both takeout as well as delivery through Skip the Dishes. As a result of COVID-19 measures presently in place, dine-in is currently unavailable in order to allow for proper social distancing.

Mary Brown’s opened its first restaurant in 1969 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Location #171 is slated to open this week in Pickering, Ontario.
