From time-to-time I like to use this space to make note of abnormally good flight deals out of our own YBR Brandon airport.
A unique one has popped up this week alongside a current promotion that Westjet is circulating. For the dates of March 2 to 9 (returning back to Brandon on the 10th) you can book a round-trip flight to Belize for $558.64 as of the time of this posting.
This one might be considered a bit of an off the map destination to some but if you like consistent heat it’s hard to argue with an average daily high in March of +30 and an average overnight low of 20 compared to what we’ve been known to get in the same month back home (to refresh your memory, this happened at the same time last year)
On a lot of days even if you wanted to go to Belize from Brandon the connections that would take you there aren’t exactly what you’d call practical, with some weekday flights being sold taking a full two days between when you take off from YBR and when you land in Belize. In this particular case on March 2 it would be a nice clean Brandon to Calgary and then Calgary straight to Belize, granted with a quite tight one hour connection layover.
One wrinkle to note is that because of the way flight times line up you would have to stay overnight for one night in Calgary on your way home on the night of March 9 before catching the flight home on the 10th. A quick hotel search shows that night in a decently rated Calgary airport chain hotel for $100ish give or take depending on the hotel that suits you.
The same rate is available if returning a day sooner or if you in stead go a week later, March 9-16. You can do even a few bucks better for some comparable flights in April including April 6-13 for $545.64. If you have exact dates in mind its best to browse those dates in a flight search with emphasis on the Friday/Saturday departures.
To get the promo code bookings would need to be done through Westjet’s website and the “15% off select base fares” link on the front page. On the same page is states that the code expires end-of-day on Thursday, though if reading this after then it never hurts to double-check what the rate is at that time.
Much thanks to Cathie of McPhail Travel for putting me onto the trail of this one!
