Westman Naturalists - Signs of Spring: Early Season Plant Identificati
Saturday, May 16 (In 4 days) 9:00am Recreation
Ever wonder what tree that bird was in? What is that flower? What a neat leaf! Please join us for a walk in or near Brandon paired with a Plant ID talk held the previous Thursday. All experiences from novice to expert are welcome! Can only make it to one of the events? No problem: while the two events work together well, it is not essential to do both.
Jennifer Wasko, a Botanist and Instructor of Horticulture at Assiniboine College, will deliver an interactive talk and even more interactive walk on Plant Identification in the Westman area in spring.
This walk will be in a location either within Brandon or within a 30 minute drive and be selected for an easy walk where a wide variety of plants can be observed and will take approximately two hours, starting at 9:00 AM. The walk will be a gentle walk with lots of stops to examine plants. The exact location will depend largely on how the plants are developing so we can guarantee a good variety and we will update you once we have this selected.
Please dress for the weather, wear appropriate footwear for a nature walk, and bring enough water and snacks for yourselves. Weather is highly variable this time of year, hats/sunscreen, and dressing in layers are all good options. Note that ticks are expected to be active at this time and there could be poison ivy or poison oak. A hand lens, macro lens, or even a camera phone with a decent zoom/macro are useful for seeing plant details up close. Bring your curious minds, and have fun!
Participation: Please complete this short form (https://forms.gle/AwBtBQqE4yJp7mKS9) to sign-up for this event. We will email you with specific details a day or so before the event. Car pooling might be available.
