Duties and Responsibilities:
Working at the Library's Circulation Desk in a complex public service environment with minimal supervision. Providing first-level contact and resolving basic customer service issues. Being responsible for library opening and closing, loaning and returning library material, renewals, holds, patron registration, collecting fines, and providing information support and directional assistance with technology and the Brandon University website. Providing reference assistance in both in-person and virtual formats. Assessing information needs and recommending, interpreting, and evaluating information sources, along with other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Must have 2-3 years' post-secondary diploma or a library's technician's diploma or equivalent, plus one year of related academic library experience or the comparable combination of education and experience is required.
Good interpersonal and excellent leadership skills, along with a strong customer service orientation and good oral and written communication skills, are required. Candidates must have strong research and critical thinking skills, be able to work with limited supervision, and function harmoniously as part of a team in a changing environment while dealing effectively with patrons. Excellent computer skills including proficiency with library systems and Microsoft Office are essential, as are strong problem-solving abilities, organizational skills, and a keen attention to detail.
*NOTE*
This is a 50% term position, concluding August 24, 2027, or until such earlier time that the employee returns. Hours of work will vary based on the academic year and will include evening and weekend shifts.
Skill based testing may be required. This position is subject to a Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. These checks must be submitted in accordance with the Policy in order to maintain employment.
