Reporting Structure
The Service Navigator / Administrative Assistant reports directly to the Executive Director or designate.
Position Overview
The Service Navigator / Administrative Assistant serves as the primary point of communication and connection for the Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation (BNRC). This role supports culturally appropriate community wellness, social planning, and safety within the downtown community by assisting with program facilitation, administrative coordination, and front-line service navigation.
The successful candidate will help create a warm, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment for clients, community members, partner agencies, and visitors while supporting access to services and community resources.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Reception & Administrative Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact and communication between BNRC programs and the general public.
- Respond to general inquiries via phone calls, emails, and walk-ins.
- Facilitate tours and provide information regarding BNRC programs and services.
- Maintain a welcoming and professional reception environment.
- Coordinate distribution of building fobs and maintain related records.
- Create and update email signature lines for new hires.
- Assist with website updates and general administrative tasks.
- Support program staff and management with administrative duties as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Service Navigation & Community Support
- Provide service navigation to individuals and service providers by connecting them with appropriate BNRC programs or external community resources.
- Assist individuals with referral processes related to housing, victim services, legal aid, education, healthcare, and other community supports.
- Use empathy, trauma-informed practice, and motivational interviewing techniques to assess service needs and support individuals effectively.
- Ensure individuals experiencing crisis are connected to appropriate supports including medical, counseling, advocacy, or emergency services when required.
- Assist with pathfinding and support for Brandon?s vulnerable population.
- Engage respectfully and professionally with vulnerable populations to ensure appropriate supports are being provided.
Crisis Response & Community Wellness
- Manage and de-escalate conflict or crisis situations occurring within the BNRC lobby and common areas.
- Utilize mentoring, self-help coping strategies, and conflict resolution techniques to support positive interpersonal interactions.
- Brainstorm, coordinate, and implement community wellness activities and initiatives.
- Establish and maintain community networks through outreach and relationship-building activities.
- Identify and share relevant information and resources that support community wellbeing.
Communications & Public Engagement
- Promote BNRC programs and services within the community.
- Manage BNRC?s social media presence, including:
- BNRC Main Facebook Page
- BNRC Instagram Page
- Ensure all public-facing communications align with BNRC policies and organizational values.
- Obtain approval from the Executive Director or Board Chair before posting or speaking directly on behalf of BNRC regarding official organizational matters.
Qualifications & Skills
Preferred qualifications and skills include:
- Experience working in social services, community development, administration, or a related field.
- Knowledge of community resources and support systems within Brandon and surrounding areas.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, mental health challenges, addictions, and crisis situations.
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed and culturally appropriate practices.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, email, and social media platforms.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Remuneration
The wage range for the Service Navigator / Administrative Assistant position is:
$24.00 ? $26.00 per hour
based on qualifications and experience.
