Deli Clerk (Part-Time)
For our Food Department located in Minnedosa, MB
The Deli Clerk is responsible for providing an exceptional level of customer service and maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to all company policies, procedures, and standards. This includes preparing, packaging, pricing, and displaying deli products; maintaining food safety and sanitation standards; assisting customers with product selection; and ensuring department cleanliness and housekeeping standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service; assist customers with product selection, special orders, product knowledge, and inquiries; collaborate respectfully with Team Members to support a positive work environment and deliver a World Class Customer Experience.
- Prepare, slice, package, wrap, label, and price deli products including meats, cheeses, salads, hot foods, and ready-to-eat items while ensuring quality, freshness, and consistency standards are maintained.
- Merchandise deli products, stock and rotate inventory using first-in, first-out procedures; ensure products are properly faced, priced, signed, and presented according to Brand Standards.
- Maintain cleanliness of deli display cases, preparation areas, equipment, workstations, and storage areas; dispose of waste appropriately and follow sanitation schedules.
- Adhere to food safety, WHMIS, occupational health and safety, asset protection, and security procedures; monitor product freshness, product temperatures, and food handling practices to ensure compliance with all regulations.
- Assist with receiving, inspecting, storing, and rotating inventory; monitor stock levels and communicate inventory shortages or quality concerns to the Deli Manager.
- Operate cash registers, scales, and point-of-sale systems as required; process customer transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Support department operations through inventory counts, markdowns, shrink and spoilage control, and other duties assigned by the Deli Manager.
Education and Experience:
- Completion of high school is preferred.
- Previous customer service, retail, grocery, or food service experience is considered an asset.
- Experience handling food products or working in a customer-facing environment is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Food Safe Certification is considered an asset.
- Prior WHMIS training is an asset.
- Commitment to ongoing learning and development within the retail and food industry.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is considered an asset.
- Retail deli environment requiring prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, and repetitive movements.
- Regular exposure to refrigerated environments, hot food preparation areas, and food service equipment.
- May be required to lift and carry items up to 20 kg. Requires use of all senses and adherence to food safety and workplace safety standards.
