2026 - Facilities Manager, FT - Physical Plant
Reporting to the Director of the Physical Plant, the Facilities Manager will provide supervision, leadership and a safe work environment for maintenance trades and power engineers while providing facilities management.
The Facilities Manager coordinates building maintenance, including HVAC, controls, electrical and mechanical systems, steam production and distribution, fire systems, energy management ensuring compliance with industry and legislative standards as well as applicable codes and regulations. The Facilities Manager assists with capital planning and budget preparations, manages building improvements and renovations while ensuring the necessary permits and inspections have been obtained and quality standards are met. The successful candidate supports and/or leads business development activities, participates in a supervisor on-call rotation; researches, hires, and oversees consultants and contractors while providing in-house staff to assist when necessary; collaborates on retrofit designs for existing equipment and renovations; monitors invoices and ensures proper coding; ensures safety regulations are adhered to; identifies maintenance and repair requirements, reviews computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) data and reports, prepares estimates, communicates regularly with the Director of Physical Plant to ensure the correct production of work orders and documentation; monitors payroll time sheets for trades staff; and other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a 2 - 3-year post-secondary diploma in a Maintenance, Operations and Trades-related field, plus five (5) years related supervisory experience in a Maintenance, Operations and Trades department, preferably in an institutional setting. A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of best practices, methods, trends and legislation in facility management and construction contract management is highly desirable. Preference given to those with extensive knowledge and experience in project and risk management.
The ideal candidate must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with all stakeholders, possess strong organizational capacity; the ability to use relevant analysis tools; as well as a proven ability to manage multiple projects/activities. They must also demonstrate strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, colleagues, and cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with risk management, quality assurance controls, along with computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as FAMIS 360, are considered strong assets.
