WHL trade deadline

With the WHL trade deadline fast approaching (Jan.10),Was wondering what people of Brandon think our team needs or if need anything ?

Now i don''t want to know who you think we should move or don''t like because if they don''t get moved there here and that''s the way it is,

So i will start this off my thoughts are that one or two big strong stay at home D-men would be to my liking, Jake Bean from Calgary type of player. Some one along that line.

and with both Swift Current and Moose Jaw trading earlier this season for goal scorers we should in my opinion get a little more help on Defense.

I agree that we need a stay-at-home defenceman or 2, but that’s not what Bean is. He’s offence-first like Clague, & decent defensively.

Your probably right there about Bean
Last night showed just how week of team we are defensively
as Thompson (Goalie) stood on his head facing 61 shots and stopping 58.Without him it would have been a slaughter

Hopefully GM see's that that the team over achieved in first half playing weaker teams and gets them some DEFENSIVE help.

Would love to see them load up to take the cup in Regina but just don't want to see them struggle for years to come cause they traded the future away. Another strong dman and a sniper up front and I would be happy.

With the return Calgary just got for Bean, BWK should seriously consider trading Clague. The east is ridiculously strong right now and has no clear favourite - adding a few pieces will still leave the BWK as just another contender in a deep division. A big return for Clague could still leave us as contenders and more importantly, set us up for a bright future.

and people want to sell everything and rebuild for three years ...

trade a couple of draft picks (and we have lots) a maybe a young guy ,get some defense help and we can go along way

Because were third in the WHl and also third in the east that means what trade everyone and throw in the towel .....please
Yes M jaw is a power house true but we have beaten swift current more then we have lost to them. Heck i see Tri City and Everette just made huge deals to get better.
There's no chance of us winning lets just give every one away and rebuild for the next three years,,,what happens in three years when say Calgary's rebuild is complete and there good again , do we throw in the towl again and rebuild again..
People we can't just throw in towl and give away all our good players....were competative now just need to add couple small pieces and were right there year in and year out

With the playoff system currently used the Wheat Kings are out in the 2nd round. I don't think they can add enough, or won't be willing to add enough, to be able to get past Moose Jaw in the second round.

I never said we should sell farm and be done with it. If you read my post I said we should deal Clague because the net return could still keep us as contenders, but at the same time set us up for a solid future as well. As stated above, I don’t think we can add enough to get past moose jaw this year.

How can you not consider dealing clague after that haul for bean. Look at the skid the wheat kings are on right now. They are actually playing good teams now and look what’s happening.. they are losing.

WheatKings are in a tough section of the schedule they constantly give up 40 plus shots a game. We are going to lose these 4 players next year. Unless something happens to swift moose jaw and Regina we do not advance from round 1 or round 2. A couple of trades sets this team up for 3 to 4 years. Still leaves all the young guys like Reinhart bettens McCartney Schneider Ettinger wyntick etc. Think of the haul we could get and the team for next 3 years.

Tricky spot.
NHL or WHL there’s a tendency to fixate on deadline day and I’ve always enjoyed the excitement of it. At the same time there’s a tendency to IMO put perhaps too much emphasis on it as a be all, end all (anybody remember getting excited about a guy named Kevin Sundher being brought in to put the team over the top?).

I’m just a simple website dude but think the group this year has shown enough to at least be given the opportunity to show what they can do in April. Playoffs are a different game and easy to forget after the quick ending last year but there’s still some serious playoff experience on the roster. Looking at the haul in the Bean trade and where they’re at in the cycle of junior hockey I just don’t see the WKs emptying the cupboard to make a significant add at the expense of gutting future years. The thing with junior hockey that isn’t talked about enough is that improving is just as much about how your existing players get better from month to month, year to year as anything else. Even if opportunity presents itself to make a small add or two today, whether or not they have a legit chance of coming out of the East jungle should come down to how committed the existing group is to turning things up over the next 2+ months.

Deadline today and nothing to report. I think they are content, but I agree with you in needing a D-man, but after lasts night game against Edm. We need the guys we have to at least show up and want to win! We are way better than the effort shown last night. Shoot the puck, put Baron on the PP and win!

I’m not an avid WHL follower. Are the players acquired for Claque and Kaspick any good? I really enjoyed watching Kaspick especially on the penalty kill, he was fun to watch.

The 2 acquired from the Royals are high-end young guys, former 3rd round WHL picks. Also Lambos is from Winnipeg and Thorpe from Brandon.

In my opinion, wheaties have a strong team and should have made a push... I think Daley and shearer are the 2 weak links on the team... We should have gotten rid of those 2... Moose Jaw is a powerhouse but we didn't do too bad against them... I think we had a great chance if we would have gotten rid of the 2 weak links... As per one of the previous posts I agree that teams who load up on talent tend to not fair so well in the playoffs... Just my opinion
