Game day thread: Edmonton Oil Kings @ Wheat Kings, 7:30 PM
1/15/2011 at 1:14 PM
Edmonton Oil Kings (21-19-0-2, 7th in Eastern Conference)
Top scorers: Michael St. Croix (21 goals, 30 assists, 51 points), Dylan Wruck (21+23=44), Jordan Hickmott (20+20=40), T.J. Foster (15+14=29)
Top scoring defenceman: Griffin Reinhart (5+15=20)
Probable starting goalie: With starter Jon Groenheyde having played both Wednesday and Friday, I'll guess that we see rookie Laurent Brossoit (5-5-0, 3.51 goals against average, 0.883 save percentage) tonight.
Manitobans: Michael St. Croix (Winnipeg), Ryan Dech (Winnipeg), Jesse Pearson (Winnipeg)
Brandon Wheat Kings (14-24-1-7, Tie-10th in Eastern Conference)
Top scorers: Mark Stone (22 goals, 31 assists, 53 points), Scott Glennie (18+35=53), Shayne Wiebe (21+11=32), Matt MacKay (12+19=31)
Top scoring defenceman: Brodie Melnychuk (5+20=25)
Probable starting goalie: Anyone's guess? 19-year old affiliate player Mike Tadjdeh stole the show last night and almost stole a win in the process. Tadjdeh is of course here because of injuries to each of the Wheaties' 17 year old goalies Corbin Boes and Liam Liston. Liston dressed as the backup. Would he play if healthy enough, or do we see Tadjdeh again?
The Wheat Kings will be looking to build on last night's strong effort when the host the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings.
In just their fourth year in the Western Hockey League, the Oil Kings find themselves in position to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history with a strong second half. Brandon of course would like nothing more than to change that, but they're going to have to start putting wins on the board against teams in the lower half of the Eastern Conference standings such as the Oil Kings.
Edmonton is led by Winnipeg's Michael St. Croix who as just a 17 year old sophomore has amassed 51 points so far this season.
Lineups and scratches will be posted 30-45 mins before game time. It would be great to hear others thoughts on the matchup including who we might see between the pipes for Brandon.
