All parents who register their child in minor hockey in Brandon agree to follow Hockey Brandon's Parent Code of Conduct. Hockey Manitoba has also made it mandatory for at least one parent from each household to complete their "Parent Respect in Sport" program.  
 
Are parent's taking minor sports too seriously?  
After all it's supposed to just be a game.

As usual, there are some hockey parents who believe that their son or daughter is the next superstar. But, there are some coaches who think they're in the Pro's also. It boils down to egos. If people could "check em at the door" sports would be a lot more fun.

this would be brought up on an ebrandon thread. Wrong person for team, it was corrected. I think both parties knew it and glad it didn't take a whole season to get fixed.

there are so many parents in this group who are out to lunch, constant aggravation with these guys. Same 3 or 4 guys who think their kids are superstars who will all be playing together in the same beer league in about 10 years or so. Hope it`s worth it boys!!!

We are directly involved with this and the whole situation is very sad, we are embarrassed to even be a part of this team. A few sets of parents believe their kids are the next Crosby and are upset this non parent coach can see through the BS and isn't playing favorites. So what do they do? Rally up a few sets of parents, gang up on him until he quits. I believe something like this happens every year in youth hockey.  
 
I just hope the coach knows, it wasn't everyone who felt that way. Just a select few.

I am not a parent, and have no idea about the situation this thread is about. However, when I went to watch my neice play hockey last year, I asked my sister why all the kids on the team didn't get equal ice time. She told me to be quiet, not to even ask that question in the arena, because most parents don't think that would be fair to their kids who are better players than others on the team. These are 11-12 year olds, on a community team. I was shocked that any parent would feel that their kid should get more ice time. It really isn't 'just a game' anymore to too many people.

All the arguments, rebuttals, defensive statements, or criticisms won't change the fact that a handful of people think that their kid deserves more that the next one and don't care who they step on to get what they want. But I've witnessed it in the past and those people do NOT change. More coaches should "pick the parents and not the kids". Distance is the only solution.

Nope, no kids on that team but know pretty much everyone involved with it. I actually like the outgoing coach but wouldn't want him coaching my kids. I never said the new temporary coaches are perfect either. Hopefully HB can find a more permanent solution in the next while to this. Going to be tough though at this time of year to find someone. The team has been dragged through the mud a little too. lol

It's going to be a very tough find for a coach for these kids not just this year. Every year now for this certain age group. You don't think people remember. Good luck finding a non parent coach for these kids, especially with this group of parents that seem to know it all and know their kids will be nhl players.  
 
Seen it all before. 1% of 1% of kids play pro hockey in the end. 1% of kids make whl or ncaa college.  
 
Parents need to give their head a shake.  
 
Kids need to earn their playing time, nothing is a guarantee , especially on aa or aaa teams.

So you make the statement " not sure why this would be on an ebrandon thread " and then you go on and make a statement on it!  
 
Would suggest that the reason a non parent coach was chosen was because of a past issue at that level and age group. Always two sides to every story. That being said your "opinion" on a public forum is interesting after feeling it should not be a public debate.  
 
Hockey is a great sport and not unique with the drama. Most other sports have a group that think that if they are not running the show then others way is not the way.

Would the temporary coaches be some of the parents.

AS a parent who had a child on this coaches team last year, I must say the coach was a great.. My child looked up to him and enjoyed being a player on his team. We wish we could have has this coach again this year. Its to bad to see this happen to a coach that looks out for the best interest in the players. There was no favouritism all the players had a far chance. Which is the way it should be at this age. After All the kids just want to play Hockey.

Sad to say but this behaviour goes on in all sports now, not just hockey. Years ago with hockey the season was starting and the team from the town that I was to play on would have 22 players that year. A neighbouring town asked me since I was 1/2 way between them if I wanted to play with them, we would have a total of 9 players. Easy choice! Best year ever. When we played the team with 22 players we lost 11-3. Next day at school took a lot of ribbing about how pathetic our team was etc. That game watched some kids from that team and they got on the ice 2x a period. I was a forward and was lucky to get to go off lol, our 2 defence played all game. That was the best year ever, never had attitudes between players, parents, coach, other teams loved to invite us to tournaments because they could boost their stats! Best year of hockey ever. The team with 22 players went on to win some big playoffs, big deal, we never came close to winning a game. I wanted to play, not sit on the bench. Coach at the start of the year said" We will probably never win a game, you will get all the ice time you want, we just can't get penalties".

I am way outta touch with the times. Are we talking about a group of 11yr old kids playing hockey?  
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the facts. But, if I'm not, I feel bad for everyone involved.  
First off, I can appreciate the parents frustrations. The costs involved in putting your children through hockey has become insane. Registration fees, Equipment costs, Time, and travel expenses etc. It hardly seems to be just a 'GAME' for 'KIDS' to 'PLAY' anymore.  
I'm sure most of the kids have no idea what it costs the parents for them to play. I'm sure even fewer care. They just want to play hockey and have fun. 11 yr. old kids are kids. I'm pretty sure the kids don't really want to show up in the dressing room with their friends and team mates knowing that the parents are angry with each other. They will never learn the value of a team. Not to mention the need to respect and appreciate a coach  
 

This is the same group that held AA practices in the summer, prior to tryouts or the team being picked! The practices were organized and led by the current replacement coaches so one has to think this new coach didn't stand a chance of success with the group of parent egos he had to deal with

I'm going to close this discussion at this time and ask that the remainder of this dispute be handled between effected parties. thank you
