New to fly fishing. I'm looking for lakes close to Brandon to take out float pontoon. Max 2 hrs preferably. And what flies to use would defiantly help! Thanks

Its a good lake to use a float system on, no boat with motors allowed. You have choice between Perch, small mouth bass, and I believe Rainbow Trout. Been a lot of years since I myself have been down there but the perch are good to learn with the fly on how to keep a fish on the line, whole different experience from regular rod and reel. Give it a shot. Elgin is another stocked trout lake but they just did some work out there and fish may not be up to where they should be for size and fishing. Happy hooking!

I'ma drop some knowledge on you, at the junction of highways 10 and 16 North of Minnedosa there is a highway rest stop. On the North side of the rest stop is a small lake. That lake is a stocked trout pond

Depending on what you'd like to catch:  
-deer hair poppers for smallies  
-never go wrong with wooly buggers (black or olive)  
-backswimmers on selected lakes/times of the year (work well at Twin - but that's a ways away)  
 
-larger streamers if you're after some jack.

See guys on the docks there all the time. Very rarely see guys out on float tubes (though I've done it myself)

I see some on Canadian tire Website and Home Hardware, also Joe Brook firearms.

Hit up all the lakes and streams. There is also Bower lake to the south. Also in Minnedosa they have their stocked trout pond in town by the Heritage Village I think. Even the Little Saskatchewan river would be a good choice to practice. If you are passionate about fly fishing a good cheap option is to learn to tie your own flies. Fishing for pike all I used to do is wrap yarn around a hook, tie some colored feathers on it and the pike loved it.

been there a few times both on the dock and in my tube. Last time caught a 2.5 lb speckled trout
