Bruce Luebke and CKLQ part ways

Via the Sun's Perry Bergson, it sounds like Bruce Luebke and CKLQ have parted ways. When you look at how long Luber has been calling games (Since 1993) he has essentially been the voice of Wheat King games for my generation. I'd just to thank Bruce for all of his years of riding the bus and calling games in what's been respected as a neutral and objective way that's all too rare in play by play men in this day and age.

Sad news for @bdnwheatkings fans as CKLQ and @wheatkingsvoice Bruce Luebke parted ways this week. He started calling games in 1993. #BWK

He will be hard to replace but I'm sure the folks at Q will leave no stone unturned in finding a new voice for hockey in Westman.

good luck finding another voice for the club. I would think some other clubs like regina would be interested in replacing the current raging homer lunatics they have calling games

wondering if Bruce has something on the horizon? bigger and better, Vegas will need a voice Bruce, why not?

Release from WCG is pasted below on the hiring of Branden Crowe as the new play by play guy. Had worked with Branden at a few games in the past and think he'll be a good addition!

Brandon MB, August 19, 2016 – 880 CKLQ has named Branden Crowe as its new play-by-play voice for the Brandon Wheat King game broadcasts. “We are very pleased to have Branden come on board as our new play-play-announcer as we celebrate 25 years of Wheat King Games being broadcast on 880 CKLQ,” said Steve Antaya, Program Director of 880 CKLQ.

Crowe grew up in Boissevain and from an early age has been a fan of the Wheat Kings. “From the age of ten I have been attending Wheat King Games and it has been my dream since then to be involved with the team in some way,” said Crowe. “Being the play-by-play announcer for the Wheat Kings is definitely a dream come true for me.”

A passion for sports has been reflected in Crowe’s career choices, as he has worked for several radio stations as an announcer for not only hockey, but also baseball and football games. His most recent position was the Marketing Manager for the Virden Oil Capitals as well as the radio play-by-play person for their games.

Crowe is not completely new to 880 CKLQ listeners, as he worked for 880 CKLQ and 94.7 Star FM as the weekend news reporter while he was attending Assiniboine Community College, where he was enrolled in the Media Production Program.

The first broadcast for Crowe as the play-by-play announcer on 880 CKLQ for the Brandon Wheat Kings will be the preseason game on September 9th.

Thanks for posting this link Adam, I had a look at Branden's Blog and it is very informative. Seems the new Voice of the Wheat Kings is very knowledgeable and as much as many people who regularly listen to the broadcasts on CKLQ will miss Bruce, having heard some of Branden's sports announcements and his coverage of training camp, I think he'll do a fine job. Looking forward to listening to the game Friday night. Best of luck to both Branden, on his new gig, and Bruce, whatever he takes on next.
