On the CTV news tonight, they talked about a study just done (probably funded by government) saying that they concluded.  
 
That teasing someone especially kids about their weight makes them have less esteem: eat more: and gain more weight.  
 
Wow, who would have believed it?  
 
Stupid or what. of course, society knows this. The people that tease no matter on what physical characteristics are petty bullies.  
 
Again, government money (which was ours) paid to study a subject that was already found out eons ago.

I find things like this so hilarious. There was a study not too long ago that stated they found out that "lack of sleep makes you more grumpy"..... whose idea was it to study the most obvious thing lol as if they predicted a different result other than the one we've known for decades . So ridiculous it's actually funny.

Government funded (no surprise to me), then yeah, it's just another case of them wasting our money on research to tell us something most, if not all, of us already knew or could easily have figured out. I could go on about the billions of dollars wasted on government funded research over the years on some of the silliest things, but like most of us I'm sure, I just think it would be nice if they would finally find a cure for cancer or some other debilitating disease instead of wasting our money on this kind of .

The issue is with wording is government funded. Makes it sound nice and that the money comes from somebody else. Truth is way more harsh tax payer funded.  
Tax is legalized theft don't believe me as Robin Hood who took lore had it robbed from the rich mostly Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham the tax collector and gave to the poor.  
If you do not voluntarily pay your tax they will garnish your wages or put you in jail. Is this not extortion they will ruin your credit rating. By paying taxes you are paying protection money to save them ruining your name.  
Governments break the very laws they make criminal.  
Taxation is Theft  
Garnishing wages is Extortion  
Spending the money the government has extorted and stole from you is morally corrupt and ridiculous.  
Time for a Change.

Studies like this have to be done to quantify and verify what is seen to be obvious truth but often isn't. One example is the persistent myth that the full moon has an effect on human behaviours. On the surface a study to determine the effect of the full moon might seem dumb but think further.  
 
If there is an effect, how much of an effect and why? Does this effect have a public safety / healthcare / productivity cost? If so is it substantial enough to warrant mitigation? So a study is launched to determine if there is an effect. Superficially it sounds stupid and obvious (there isn't but no one believes it) but there are important implications.  
 
Another reason for studies is that you need to cite studies and stats when applying for funding for grants and such. A program to help overweight teens address the physical and emotional problems, for instance, can't apply for funding based on, "Well, everyone knows this and my sister has a son who is..."  
 
Most researchers and institutions have no interest in wasting their time, money, reputation and careers on utterly frivolous research. I concede that there are whackadoos.

Would you tease a child for not knowing math or teach them the skills on how to be good at math.

I heard this brief snippet while doing another task. I understood it was a random study from somewhere in the U.S. - from some medical related facility south of the border. News outlets often report on studies all over the world for health news.  
 
If the OP states "Probably" Government Funding, can you provide the proper link from yesterday or the day before when it aired briefly? Probably is only in your mind. State the facts.  
 
Do you have a link you can share from CTV News? It may not be 'your' money. Pretty sure it was not from Canada. If you are going to encourage political discussion OR more importantly such a sensitive subject at hand, provide a link to the news story you refer to.

we all know that is the outcome, but they do this because they need to see what happens in the body when they are teased. This is just the end result.  
Which chemicals are released and how much of it etc. etc. This way when they make a medication or anything they know what they're up against and how to treat it.
