This baffles me.  
Your off on paid leave from work for the next month but don’t want to pay daycare to hold your child’s spot? My families and I talked about this before hand thankfully but they are all paying me as their still going to be bringing their children here and there as they will need to spot still. And when this is over they will still need the spot.  
So you expect your daycare to have no income but when you get called back to work in a month to still have your spot?  
I am self employed and a single income household. I’m a single mom and if I suddenly had no income (my ei wouldn’t cover anything) I would lose everything.  
Try working with your daycare. Maybe ask around to people who need daycare and see if they would like your spot for the time being. Don’t leave your daycare high and dry in this time. We all need to work together.  
The way people speak about daycares in general has got to start becoming more respectful. You rely on these people when you need them for 10 hours a day to care for your children. They love and nurture your children 5 days a week.  
All of us are going to be going through hard times but remember when this is over do you not want life to pickup and be how it was? Or do you want to struggle to find daycare and potentially not be able to go back to work because you didn’t want to pay for your spot for 4 weeks.  
Chances are daycare centres will be closed for quite awhile so there are many families in dire need of care and your spot can be filled just as quick as you leave it.

I know i am not getting paid for any time off. The company I work for is a huge company in town and myself and everyone else were told once our 2-3 sick days were used up for the year we are on our own. Luckily enough I am with the YMCA and they are graciously refunding all monies that would of been paid for child care during the shutdown. We are all in the same boat, don't think everyone is getting a free month off here except you. You will likely be able to supliment your child care and watch children of drs and nurses and such who are going to remain working and have no care. Some of us have no options at all.  
 
I can see the government subsidizing the daycare centers anyway, if this happens it would be very wrong to keep charging folks.

I know that the YMCA is not charging you, but also crediting you for what you have paid for this month and into the next for spots. I find it hard to believe that if your in a facility like this they would charge you to hold anything. Even their membership fees aren't being charged.

The lastest press conference from the federal government includes, among others:  
 
- closure of the border with the US, with the exception of returning citizens and trade  
 
- expansion of the EI program to capture people who wouldn't normally be eligible  
 
- temporary boost in CTB payments  
 
- help for businesses to keep people on payroll  
 
- extension of payment deadline for income tax (although I think the filing deadline remains to same)

I'm not getting paid. You need 600 hours for sick leave and I've only been off mat leave for 2 months. We're at a center so I will not be bringing my child there at all. I can not offer the spot to another person for the time being as the center is closed as of Friday. Our center (not ymca) is worried about staying a float. I get that. But I'm worried about my family getting by too. I don't believe anyone has specifically mentioned home daycares that they are still able to use.

Apparently they are doing just that. Not sure for how long. Expect long wait times.

Anyone ever dealt with an employer who will not lay off but is giving next to no hours?

Have you requested a lay off? They may be trying to give the hours they have to all their staff. Perhaps you asking to be laid off will help them? Less people to give hours to.

Requested a lay off and waiting to hear what’s going on but no answer.  
 
This is not a new issue but now is being blamed on the virus

You don’t need to be laid off. Anyone with lessened hours or no hours due to the outbreak, can apply for EI for 16 weeks without a doctors note or anything

yes and there is a phone number to ei only for covid-19 claims, IDK the number but im sure the service canada web site tells you the info

I am not sick, have not travelled and there is no reason for me to not be working. Like I said this is not a new issue. I last worked Tuesday last week and now am told the work that was coming is postponed. I am being ignored and others are at work.

What to do when you know someone who has just returned from southern US (i.e. a snowbird) who is not self isolating and instead has been out grocery shopping and running other errands .. even though they've been offered options by their neighbors?

It looks like there's going to be a couple of different measures, depending on your situation.  
 
If you are sick, need to take care of someone who's sick, are being quarantined, or unable to work for other health-related reasons pertaining to COVID, those will be administered through the EI program.  
 
If you are facing unemployment, there will be  
 
"[an] Emergency Support Benefit delivered through the CRA to provide up to $5.0 billion in support to workers who are not eligible for EI and who are facing unemployment. "

They are still working on rolling out the details. Be patient. It's astounding the speed at which they're working already. I'm sure more information will come in the day to come.

we as a community have to stick together and help where we can , so myself and a few  
 
others will do this as long as we can where we can For those who are self quarantine and are unable to do some certain tasks , our group of volunteers are offering to assist from picking up per ordered shopping to drop off and pickup of items to others.  
 
 
 
Please lets be clear on this . There is no heath reason why you cannot walk your dog or go out in solitude and get fresh air . This is not a walk your dog service or Can?t get a cab service or a messenger service.  
 
 
 
Resources and hours in a day are limited so please only contact If you really need assistance....  
 
Be courteous don?t put it on us to tell you ?NO ?

Working from home and noticed the mail carrier coming up the driveway.  
 
Finished what I was doing then went to the mail, nothing there except for a delivery notice indicating valid ID was required and I could pick it up tomorrow.  
 
I was here, he could see me as he came up the driveway. He did not knock, just dropped and left.  
 
I have ordered to isolate until this Saturday. Not a big deal for me as not critical that I have the package before the weekend. But what if this was medicine or some other required item.  
 
Just be aware that things you are waiting for may not be delivered.

Today they had 3 kids at the skatepark on scooters. What is the point of shutting down schools if kids are going to get together and hang out? Sure only 3 kids but what if one was infected. Now two more are, take it home, the cycle continues. If this is the case might as well put them back in school then.

I sure hope you are writing your response to get a rise out of all of us. You are in mandatory quarantine for fear that you could make others sick around you but you would expect your Canada post delivery person to knock on your door and deal with you in person? If you didn’t want your parcel carded do you have the option when checking out from wherever you’re buying from to say leave at door.

I have had this situation in the past, what i did is apply for EI asap and after trying several times i told ei i was unable to get my employer to produce an ROE, one was a cassual job who was under the impression that they could not give an ROE since I was still on their list. once ei corrected them they filled it out asap. The other just made exuses until ei finnally pushed hard enough they got it done. In the end i got my whole claim in one check, we were a two income family so it worked out ok but not ok for others

Could they have been a family unit? We went to the park the other day with our 5 kids. It might have seemed weird, but we're all one household, so there's no one to "bring it back to". We picked a park where no one else was, stayed 20 minutes, then left.
