what is open for essential services?

I’m just wondering is there a list or anything where I can see what stores will still be open. I do not want to panic shop. But there are a few things that I will be moving in the next couple of weeks. Just wondering if they will still be accessible. Or do I need to go out today and get everything.

people dont get it they think because they are isolated they can go buy paint and building materials keep safe everyone those workers are getting stressed out when families are just walking around. start screening people before they go into the store send them away if its not essential

This is the best time to finish home reno’s. Not gonna have my husband fall into a depression because you don’t want someone going to an open store to buy drywall and paint. Practice safe social distancing and hand washing practices.

I've been maintaining an hours page at https://ebrandon.ca/hours.aspx based on most currently available info that I've had, but that won't reflect any further changes tomorrow at this point. Will be working to confirm further updates to the list between now and tomorrow but when in doubt check with the business, its website or social media presence.

Regarding the discussion of home improvement-type of items above, I know Rona is offering free home delivery within the city of Brandon (no minimum order value). They're also doing the same within a radius of the city, though in that case minimum order would be $99. This would be one way to get the hypothetical can of paint without having to make a shopping trip outside of the home.

Depending on what you'll be needing, Christies is offering free home delivery within Brandon along with curbside pickup. Lots of items in that big new warehouse that can be at your doorstep. They've confirmed for me they will still be open April 1, 10-4 on weekdays and 9-1 on Saturdays.

thank you for your post I think I was misunderstood I have no concerns with people keeping busy while at home just saying the whole family does not need to be there for that purchase...

Look at it this way, there’s many people that have alcoholism. You take their “medicine” away from them (I say medicine because that this point if your a heavy alcoholic than it is to them) they need it or they would face horrible withdrawals and flood the hospital which is what we don’t want. Not to mention look at all the theft and raids that just happened this fall at the Liqour stores, if the stores close where do you think these people are going to raid next. Your homes most likely. There would be an increase in crime for sure because people do crazy things for alcohol and drugs. Don’t kid yourself. Plus closing the schools is designed to keep kids safe from each other. Think about how kids share cold and flus or even lice with each other then bring it home to siblings and parents. They are coming up with an online method to make up for it.

Well, I wont be going to Walmart anytime soon. I was there to pick a few items and decided to pick up some bread seeing as our local grocery store is usually sold out. I was disgusted to see 2 young boys running around touching the produce and fruit. Wow, is all I can say. Not too sure where the parents or guardians were during this. A walmart worker did tell the kids to stop touching the veggies and fruit. Wash all fruit and veggies, no matter where it comes from...

I was there last Saturday WALMART waiting for a shopping cart to be sanitized, and this older woman, in here late 60,s early 70:s, came up beside me, which she should've been 6 feet behind me: and the greeter said if you Don't need a cart: proceed thru.She proceeded thru,...…. fine...…..then grabbed the cart I was upposed to have!!!! She was one of those high class types. I was the the pheasant! No kidding Folks!!!!!! Ignorant ol "B"!!! Grab a brain you selfish ol woman!!!

Wpg lc employee tests positive for covid 19

Glad everyone is so happy the liqourmarts are open but not concerned for the employees who are forced to work in a dangerous situation. Not only before did they endure rapid thefts, threatened and mob thefts with one employee being knocked unconscious before secured entrances were supposedly being installed through out the province. Have yet to see any stores in brandon and multiple without in wpg still.
Now they are forced to be front and center of a deadly disease without any protection. Many stores of closed down due to safety of employees or if not at least have shields and pay raises. I dont see the liqour marts wih shields. For a government business that makes millions you would think they could so something for the safety of their staff.
And now a winnipeg employee has tested positive for covid 19. Too bad they couldnt follow the governments own recommendation of staying closed and staying home.

Not me, but a contact I trust to accurately describe. They had their test done in Brandon very early not long after the test site here was opened. Describe the test as quick (matter of seconds) but not particularly comfortable... big Q-tip up the nose to swab the throat. Comfortable or not it goes without saying that it's important to get tested if you meet the criteria in the self-assessment tool and Health Links assesses you should have it done.
Took 12 days to get their negative result (earlier this week). It’s been said that if one gets a positive result it’s likely to come back quicker than a negative (see link below). Just because it’s one test and it was done in early days I’d be cautious to widely assume all tests are still having the same timing without more info.

Thank you . If only everyone thought that way. It is not fair to all the "essential service " people having to put their lives and the lives of their family's endanger. There is other ways and untill people smarten up this is going to get a lot worse for a lot longer.

I realize that money is tight right now, and how difficult it may be for you to find a babysitter - Please try and find the extra funds required to do curb side pick-up or have your groceries delivered. A grocery store is no place for a child right now - regardless of how well behaved they might be - they create an inconvience to the other shoppers and staff.

School is suspended indefinitely. This does not mean it is done for the year. If they deem it safe before June they will allow students to return to school.

If anyone is tight on funds, superstore is waiving the fee to do a pickup/ online order and sobeys south was doing free delivery last time I checked

Just to follow-up on this post, at today's provincial media conference it was said that there is no longer a backlog at the provincial lab. 24-48 hour turnaround time from when test arrives at the lab.

Has any of the media asked about the government giving more information about location of cases as opposed to just health regions? Prairie Mountain covers a huge area including Brandon. Where are we seeing our cases? It would also be nice to know how many tests they are running in these health regions.

it doesn't matter where the cases are they are here. Practice social distancing, still way too many people continuing as if its a normal everyday life. assume that its in your town only go out when needed.

The question was asked at today's media conference. Answer was to the tune of there being no benefit to giving geographic regions. When the question comes up, the answer generally goes toward directing focus to the public being focused on staying home no matter where you live and practicing social distancing if you absolutely must go out.

The Brandon Sun had what I thought was a well-stated editorial on the topic in yesterday's paper on the value of further availability of information (no paywall):

It's not the kind of pure stats that would give a full idea of the impact the community itself is seeing, but what we are seeing is information come out when there are cases at a facility in a city that needs to be identified as part of potential exposure. Eg. Selkirk Regional Health Centre and Club Regent Casino in Winnipeg earlier this week and now today Gimli's Betel Home. We were given an idea of possible exposure when the two Brandon Westjet flights for March 14 and 15 that were disclosed over the weekend. As the virus progresses, if there are places where they may have been exposure that they havent been able to trace I'd expect to see similiar disclosures.

Yep. I am doing what the province and Canada recommends to stop the spread. I believe we all need to get on board in order to get through. I also believe in being informed....

I am sure too it is for the safety of those individuals who test positive. I read about the story of the young couple in I think Flin Flon that tested positive after returning from a trip from Mexico. In a small town it wasn't hard to find the info on who was positive. They did all the required stuff. At the time there was no self quarentinging required, no travel advisory, nothing. It was before it ballooned to what it is now. The couple had to take it to police due to threats, they have been shunned in the community, etc. Not fair if you ask me, you think you would support and be glad they isolated themselves but nope, most hated in town now.

I am doing what I can to prevent spread but, hate to admit, I am worried about our species.
I was out mailing a couple of things (at an outdoor drop box) and was amazed at some people not being able to social distance from me in an empty parking lot. SMH
I was also in communication with someone that told me they were planning to visit their friends who were social isolating because they knew that being alone must be hard. Huh????

can a person buy masks anywhere in Brandon? I was under the impression that there are none to buy. But I keep seeing new people wearing them every day. I wonder where they get the masks from?
