Has either the Premier, Health Dept. or Justice Dept. come out with guidelines in regards to children of Divorced Parents - where they go back and forth between parents because of joint custody or visitation orders. In a number of cases these children are moving between blended families where parents have remarried to individuals with children of their own. Any ideas on how to protect the children?

I have not read anything yet, but it would be nice to know.

My other half has a child that goea back and forth, and we recently found out that they have been going up to their cabin on the weekends, but of course "practicing social distancing", and looking into going again. My other half advised them on how the govn said they shouldnt be going out to their cabins, but they didnt care.

I am lucky that my ex hasnt asked to see our child, but has called to facetime to be able to see each other.

Remain in one household. We are not supposed to be visiting other people or other households for any reason. My step daughter currently remains with us and FaceTimes with her father.

Maybe you feel that way because your step daughter if currently with you. I would doubt you would fell the same if the child was with the other parent right now.

This situation could go on for months, and during this already difficult time, parents have the right to see their children.

There is an indiscriminate, invisible virus circulating the planet that kills young and old, fit and healthy at random. What do people not understand? Government guidelines are clear. “Stay at home unless you are going to work or buying groceries”. By breaching these guidelines you put everyone else, your children and yourselves at risk and probably prolong this pandemic. Do you want Manitoba to become the next New York or Quebec? Our only obligation during this time is to protect each other by following the rules. Nothing else matters.

To see what I saw today. I was at Coop waiting in my vehicle for my brother to do his shopping. He got in quickly as he was third in line. The line certainly backed up after that to about 7 or 8 people, the young fella telling people when to enter did an awesome job.Low and behold, when the exit door opened and one person came out, a man ran in thru the open exit door and right into the store. Shame on you buddy, I guess your more important than the rest of us trying desperately to follow the guidelines so we can all get back to normal faster. Karma will strike you sir,hopefully the sooner the better

In regards to divorced families, mine is doing a “two house isolation”. The children travel between both houses but we keep each other accountable to not have contact with anyone. We both have jobs which don’t require contact so are lucky. There is no difference in isolating in one house or having two houses, and it keeps a sense of normalcy for the children. It helps everyone’s mental health without any risk.

No there isn’t any difference unless you go to the grocery store , contract covid 19, potentially give it to your child who then goes to visit the other parents house and transfers the virus to that household so spreading the virus and prolonging the pandemic. Could easily happen, hence the guidelines to contact only with members of our own household. I sincerely hope that I am wrong.

Although you are entitled to your opinion, that’s all it is, an opinion. The FACTS speak for themselves. The following article from the National Post states that parents should respect custody arrangements, and that “Children’s lives — and vitally important family relationships — cannot be placed ‘on hold’ indefinitely without risking serious emotional harm and upset“. So, how about we leave this to the experts, shall we?

I am just asking people to be careful. As we have heard too many are not taking the pandemic seriously enough and they are putting the well being of others at risk. The longer these risks are taken the longer the pandemic and associated restrictions will last and the more people will die.

What are we supposed to do about people simply coming and going from your home as they see fit? I live with multiple different room mates and 1 has started a relationship with someone and that person is coming and going every single day, putting all of us at risk. What do I do about this?

I didn't post this in the facts thread since its based on user reports rather than being confirmed cases, but a crowdsourced "Covid Near You" tool from Harvard, Boston Children's Hospital & volunteers is now including Canada in its mapping of where people report covid-like symptoms and those who have reported being tested. Very limited amount of reporting from this area so far...

I too feel like so many think we have lost our minds.

I get some pretty interesting looks when I wear my mask to the store. I don't care one bit. It should be the norm now but I only counted maybe 10 others with them on.

Also talking to people on the phone only to have them say they had company over but seeing that they were 6ft apart sitting outside that it was ok. Seeing posts on facebook of people visiting with family who they do not live with. Seeing vehicles come and go from the neighbors house.

You could have a house meeting and see if something could be changed. Or you move into a one bedroom apartment with no roommates. Or you go stay with family or friend who is likeminded.

It will be a month or two at least. Possibly more news on the press call at 1pm, live stream on CBC website.
When non essentials are allowed back it will probably be on a staggered basis depending on the business, here is a link to an opinion piece.

Am I the only one shocked and disappointed reading this? 32 tests performed yesterday. They need to do alot more testing than that. If they have run thin on potential cases start testing other frontline workers who may not be symptomatic.

The reason the number was so low yesterday was because of Easter Sunday, normally they're averaging about 700-800 a day.

Such but was hoping they werent stopping testing for such a reason. Dont think that covid sat inside yesterday and ate a bunch of chocolate.

Does this mean that a trucker hauling goods into and out of Manitoba will have to stop work for two weeks every time he crosses the border back into Manitoba?
Or is there another part to this that was not published that shows exemptions?

I checked in with Manitoba health as I have an April wheat contract to haul into Saskatchewan and I received an email confirming this exemption and that it would apply to me hauling grain. The contract has not been called yet and I still hope to avoid hauling until we get a better understanding of the virus situation. One good thing is that the grain elevators have protocol in place to prevent contact between individuals.

The appliance store I would shop in if needed is huge and you would never be close to any other person.
Also why can car dealerships still be allowed to operate? That's non essential IMO.

Doesnt make sense to me.

A fridge or washer can go and a perso would like to see a new one in person before buying (like us, we need a new washer as ours is leaking). I refuse to order online, as for a big purchase like that, i want to see it in person.

Gardening, low on my list. I would love to get flowers and stuff and start planting, but if it was between an appliance needing replacing or flowers, appliance wins.

While appliances are important we didn’t used to have them and can usually manage for a little while without, most people here have a spare freezer or fridge. You can still buy replacements just not as easily. This may be a case where possible that more appliances start to get repaired if you can get someone to come out. Our garden however is essential as it feeds my family for the year although we have all of our seeds etc either ordered or already here and germinated indoors. I think that as finances tighten up and the economy continues to shrink we will see more people that are able looking towards growing more of their own fruit and vegetables out of necessity.
