Confused

“Emergent” and “urgent” recommendations are often confused by patients. They are not the same. These (along with elective) refer to different timelines that the physician suggests as acceptable for the procedure, obviously the Emergency being the higher priority. And even within each of the 3 there are different levels of priority...for example if you go in with a finger chopped off, it would certainly be an emergency. If, right behind you, a guy is carried in with a javelin stuck through his lung, he will receive treatment before your finger does. I don’t think urgent necessarily refers to a situation that will be permanently life-altering if not dealt with within a certain period of time. Not sure what time that is...3-6-12 months? It’s more like - yes there is an issue, you’re not going to die from it, we’ll wait for a lull in emergent situations and then get you in.
