How long is too long
10/2/2008 at 6:06 PM
A few times I have had to attend the Emergency dept at the BRHC with my elderly mom. First thing I feel is an attitude of non-concern as to how long you will wait for care, this is after the registration, by the staff. It seems to be acceptable that when you use the dept there will definitley be a wait and it will be long, just suck it up. Regardless of your problem. My mom broke her hip and was in the dept from 4:40 pm until 10:00 pm before she was assigned a room. Many people sat in the dept for at least 3 hrs on other occasions and the point is most people will think that fine. Before you question the validity of my mom's emerg visits, let me assure you they were legitament. It's the feeling of being in limbo that bugs me the most, I think. It seems like nobody cares.I once waited patiently for 2 nurses to finish their conversation( could have been of a medical nature, I was note eavesdropping) before asking for a warm cover for my mom, they saw me standing there, well they never did stop so I took off on my own and after a bit of hunting I found what I wanted and that was that. It's that feeling that they are very important, way to busy to be bothered that again adds to the chaos in the dept for the attendees/patients.
