Discussions

Following is a summary of a letter to the editor by Dr.Decter printed in the November 8th Brandon Sun regarding reforming our health care system:  
 
- the nature of how health regions are funded gives little chance for stakeholders (public, staff) to give input and shape the system.  
 
- Dr. Decter suggests that we help by providing the government with opinions on how things should be re-shaped including:  
 
* have one large health-care region set up as a health-care trust. This trust would have reducted management and an elected board  
 
* the region should have the ability to treat a wider variety of patients. Our newly constructed hospital is currently seriously under-used because of staff and meterial shortages..  
 
* rural hospitals need to be given an increased emphasis  
 
In the letter he calls on the public to organize and take more ownership of the system in order to force change.
