acne treatments?

My son is 13 and puberty is hitting him hard. He's really breaking out and kids have been teasing him, etc.
We've tried a whole bunch of OTC products but nothing has really worked so far.
I'm considering ordering something like Proactive, but I'm reading mixed reviews about it.
Has anyone tried it or anything else that you would recommend?
