losing weight vs. working out

It's great to think about physical fitness, and it's great to work towards becoming more fit. But here's the thing: you can't target one area of the body for fat loss. If you want to lose fat, you need to eat less, and the fat comes off wherever your body tells it to.
If you exercise more without paying attention to diet, you're probably (statistically) going to end up eating more, because physical exertion causes your appetite to increase. Maybe you'll build muscle, and you'll probably become more fit, but you won't necessarily lose the moobs.
But do exercise, for sure! There are huge benefits to exercise that have nothing to do with weight loss!
If you want to read some sciencey stuff about this in an easily-digestible format, I'd recommend "The Cure For Everything" by Tim Caulfield. He looks at myths and science in a lot of fields, from health and fitness to alternative medicine and "Big Pharma".
For myself, I've been using the Skimble Fitness Trainer app, and I really like it. It has lots of workouts at all levels, and it has good options for bodyweight-only exercises if you don't have access to gym equipment. I've gotten stronger in the last few months of using it, and combined with reducing dessert intake, I've lost some gut fat too.
Good luck.
