Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.  
 
Severe thunderstorms developing in eastern Montana and North Dakota will continue to push into southern Manitoba late this evening and overnight into Friday morning.  
 
Wind gusts greater than 90 km/h, up to golf ball sized hail and rainfall amounts of 50 to 70 mm will be possible with these thunderstorms.  
 
The risk of severe weather will taper off from west to east overnight but could persist until the morning hours.  
 
This severe thunderstorm watch may be expanded towards the Ontario border later this evening as the system continues to develop.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

I just saw on #ndwx that someplace just south of the border (south of Carduff SK) has gotten 254mm as of 9 p.m.  
 
I would be happy with a good inch or two, but not 10+ inches!  
 
It's a super-slow moving complex. Hopefully it will mostly die out before hitting us.

I have 4/10 of an inch in my rain gauge this morning in central Brandon. It sounded like a lot more than that last night.

Yesterday the corn crop was really suffering, but what we received last night was not a storm but a welcome rain, checked the rain gauge and just a little over 5/10, another half an inch would help get through another week.

Yeah, we got about 10 mm here in Riverheights. It sure sounded like it was more when I was up with baby but I guess it was a nice, light steady rain. The ground would have had time to absorb it too, instead of a downpour.
