Which kit do you have where did you buy it ?

I have a Ford emergency kit that came with a new car. I moved on to a different new car but kept the kit as it has everything I might need.

I see CAA has a kit for sale. Around 50.00 dollars I think.

I have the Ford kit too that came with my car. But I also have a bag with extra blankets, ski pants and boots, wool socks and some space-age "blanket" that is all folded up in a tight package. Threw in some candles and granola bars.

How about a kit from a big box store

what ever you have for an emergency kit is , make sure that the kit is stored where if you roll over or hit something you will not get hit with it. Things like shovels, candles in a metal can, will cause a lot of hurt if you get hit by them in a crash.  
 
After saying that, some items like extra clothes , I would suggest keeping where you can access them without getting out of the vehicle.  
An experience my wife had was, she hit the ditch, she was not dressed to be out of the car, and her extra clothes where in the trunk. Not only where her extra clothes cold, she had to get out of the car in waist deep snow to get to them. Now her extra clothes are carried in the back seat.

It's really easy to buy some basics and put it into a tote box for winter in the back of the vehicle, but if you want to cover a few things I found the CAA Manitoba website helpful. I think if anyone is travelling in Manitoba, it shouldn't be a kit from somewhere that doesn't understand our sometimes severe conditions.

I guess it depends on if you travel a lot and where. If it's less travelled areas, be sure your travel emergency kit is up to date. If hit and miss travelling on main roads, still have a good kit regardless.  
 
It's important to think of these things. I know many people might have an experience here and there where they wish they had something in the vehicle to help.

What kind of things would you look for in a kit? Some might be more useful than others. Some take up sizable space.  
 
What kind of vehicle do you drive? This could be useful for recommending a kit.

I made my own:  
Cuz they said it's good to have your winter travel kit ready... so I got mine:  
Flashlight, batteries, blanket, canned goods, shovel, candles, flares, some wood, paper, matches, emergency radio, and some rubbing alcohol.  
 
...But I think it's way to much crap to take on the transit.  
 
PS, that's a bit of comic relief.

I've kept them both in my truck kit for a few years now, nice thing is the water pouches can freeze and thaw and not pop, I haven't had one even so much as leak yet, highly recommend both.
