Has anyone driven from Brandon to Winnipeg today? What is the road like? Thanks!!

Just got back from Winnipeg. Clear sailing to Sydney. Pretty much solid ice to Brandon. Most semi’s going 70- 80 km/hr.
Multiple semi’s in the ditch. The ice is thick and the salt is making the top wet and very slippery. It will be at least till tomorrow before the salt breaks through.

My hubby tells me to drive very slowly on Tuesday. We live in Douglas.

The #1 highway is still extremely icy and he didn’t notice a lot of sand or anything else being done on it to improve it.

Hopefully something gets done in morning as I have to go to town or I would stay home.

As the rain was Saturday evening and then snow I would have thought Highways would have at least put sand down.

Just home to Oak Lake. Sydney west the road is terrible. Roads were salted so wet and slippery.

What’s the hwy condition from Brandon to Portage this morning? Why does it take so long for them to sand the roads? We haven’t gotten any rain for a few days already.

The roads are bad because its to cold. It has nothing to do with the weather we have had the last two days. Doesnt matter how much sand or salt they put out the is a very short window with the lack of warm weather. The plow trucks have been sanding and salting constantly its not penetrating the ice. Its just getting blow into the ditch by traffic. We need some warm weather for the ice to soften up and the product they put out to work and penetrate the ice to break it up.

I live just west of Brandon and the salt and sand is now doing it's job- slushy out there this afternoon.

Is definitely working today. I found driving conditions to be much improved tonight-there is slush in aces, and a lot of the ice has gone off the highway.
