Guessing you saw something happen ? And you're right just be nice if you can as yelling doesn't really solve anything.

I spent a lot of my young adult years working those retail jobs, and right now everyone is stressed out, if you escalate with staff don't be shocked if they decide to shout back. I'm with the original poster just try and be nice, everyone is handling this whole pandemic differently but if we start devolving to the point where we're screaming in each others faces over a simple mandate to wear a mask then it'll be what another 2 weeks before we're back to square one? We all need to work together to get through this, its been said every single day since March but it's the truth.

This is a provincial mandate, not individual store policy. No one is allowed in a public building without one unless they have a letter from their doctor which must be on their person. The staff have every right to refuse service as not doing so could get themselves and the business itself in hot water. Just remember that people will be watching everything everywhere come Monday and phone calls will be made. That is a certainty, so there is no need to become personally involved in any altercation. Just my opinion.

Do you have a link to this letter carrying requirement? That is an infringement of privacy. Have we really gotten to the place where authorities can stop people and demand papers? And citizens can call a snitch line to turn in their neighbours and family ?  
 
are you this vigilant on phoning in other law breakers? All this masking has resulted in an increase of sexual assault so your eagle eyes can help protect against that. The isolation has increased child predator activity on the internet, harder to see, but keep watching. And depression, suicides have increased, not sure who to call about that, but maybe you do?

Unless the province of Manitoba has recently switched from being a nudist colony to requiring full dress, i'm pretty sure this "FREEDOM!" stuff is a whole lot of misunderstanding.  
 
And yes, security guards can and likely WILL demand your documentation. Your right to breathe freely ends at my (and the rest of the commons) right to NOT get severely sick or die from an infectious agent.

There are multiple restaurants in Winnipeg that are not allowing residents of Brandon in their establishment.  
 
They ask for ID at the door and you will not be allowed to enter whether you have a face mask or not.

You first! I was able to find information for my claims by searching on the web, but not yours. Did you know Winnipeg has had 28 murders so far this year!?

There is only one thing that matters and that is that come Monday masks are mandated. Period. People's personal opinions no longer matter. Now I find it very difficult to rationally discuss this topic with you as it is very clear that we are not even close to being on the same level intellectually. Take care of yourself.

... and Winnipeg had 44 murders last year. Breaking that down to a monthly amount, last year and this year are about the same. I don't see what masks have to do with it.

You nor I can do anything about those murders. I can wear a mask, social distance, and wash my hands frequently. I can help stop the spread of this covid 19 virous. How about you?

Anyone provide a link to where you must carry documents from doctor??

I don't have a link but am going with what my specialist told me two days ago. My apologies if this is not the case here "yet". I do know Transport Canada requires documentation and people in other regulated provinces have been using papers to show that they are exempt as without proof, business can still make you leave. They do not have to take people at their word, especially where public health and safety is concerned. I did not mean that everyone needs to run out to get documentation but be prepared for pushback without it. Again, my apologies if I caused confusion on that.

So I have received a rude private message, this is why the government keeps positive test results private. It’s ok to disagree and have differing opinions. We can learn from each other. My point is why are we focusing so much on one disease? As a society we need to work together to protect each other from many things, not just one. Focusing on one element while ignoring the other elements is short sighted.

Ok, where can I buy a mask, the local shops do not have them. If by Monday I have not been able to purchase one then I am not allowed to go shopping for one.  
Masks as well as gloves have been unavailable in our stores, they may well get stock in but they are gone almost before getting onto the shelves, guess it's a bit like the toilet paper crisis of a few months ago.  
Hopefully the stores will have a supply for the customers if they want us to shop. Oh, but I cannot get out of my vehicle to be given one because it is a public place. Will a scarf or bandana wrapped around my face suffice instead?  
Maybe the government should have delivered a mask or three to every household.

There was just a massive public distribution of masks by the city & Maple leaf.  
Disposable and reusable masks have been available in most stores (even convenience stores) for 4-6 weeks.  
If you havent been able to get masks it is because you've made no attempt.

your grasp of this virus is ridiculous and absurd. We are learning from some , the things not to do. We are focusing on covid 19 because this virus is killing people. . Nothing wrong with opinions, but your confusing opinions with facts. I hope you can grasp what your reading. Stay safe, and follow what Manitoba health is telling you.

Are you in Brandon? Or one of the towns in the area? There are tons of people selling material ones for very reasonable prices on Facebook or in the classifieds here on ebrandon.

No I'm out in the rural part. Have actually just managed to get some in Neepawa Co-op, they had about a dozen packs of 20, so I picked up a pack. Not on the shelves but in a basket by one of the tills. Would have been better placed by the entrance.  
So I'm good to go.

Rudeness is unacceptable (although bear in mind sometimes what we interpret as "rude" isn't in fact rude, but because it disagrees with us we perceive it as such).  
 
However, we're past the point of having differing opinions. There is a public health order. Full stop. If you don't like it, you may choose to remain mask-free, but you must do so in your own home. Full stop. There will be exceptions, but you must be prepared to prove it applies to you. Full stop.  
 
We are focused on a one disease because it presents a clear, present and IMMEDIATE danger to not only the health of everyone (although more so for particular segments of the population - but that's not hard and fast), but also the health of our economy, our institutions, and even to the fabric of our society. Those other things you've talked about, while important, have been with us since the dawn of civilization, and won't be going anywhere anytime soon. It's willful blindness not the see the distinction.  
 
It's the equivalent of refusing to evacuate with the forest fire on the edge of town, threatening to consume everything for everyone in your community, just because you think we should all make sure all the potholes are filled first, so no one gets hurt on the drive out of town.  
 
Dr. Roussin and other have continually said that we need to learn to live with this virus. He is correct. But that doesn't mean we go back to how life was before and carry on as if nothing's wrong. That means we need to adjust our lives, our habits, and our society itself to accommodate daily living in this new reality. Will we go back to the old way of doing things? Perhaps. But in the meanwhile, we all need to be on the same page so we can keep the economy open, be able to open our schools, and generally keep our society chugging along, creating a new normal along the way.

Is no excuse for not buying or having masks lots of us including myself live in rural areas but have purchased or made masks. Most Coops have them that I've been in, hardware stores, almost always by the checkouts.  
Check locally see if someone selling homemade masks r willing to make you one.  
 
This is not new this Covid19 has been here in our province over 5 months now and we have been constantly reminded of the almighty "second wave"" is coming - be prepared.

Can we just clear up what some in this thread are alluding to - you do NOT need to wear masks outdoors, UNLESS it is an outdoor public gathering.  
 
I am not anti-mask, but we shouldn't be suggesting that people must stay in their homes if they aren't wearing masks. The rule is at least somewhat clear:  
 
"Wear a mask in all indoor public places and at all public gatherings (indoor and outdoor)."  
 
The original post was asking that people NOT take out their anger (whatever side they are on) on the poor retail employees and associated security staff who will have to enforce this come Monday. That's good advice.  
 
And for the bit about doctor's notes being an invasion of privacy - they aren't. Your doctor ought to be writing a note that says you cannot wear a mask without indicating why that is. Nobody needs to know what your medical condition is. Having said that, I suspect very few doctors will willingly write notes given that there are likely very few medical conditions that would exempt someone from wearing a mask.

I will be using my underwear as a mask. At least it will get washed. You can make masks out of underwear too, or old shirts. I am sure to forget my mask on many occasions. I guess in a pinch, if you are a man, take off your shirt and put it around your face. Whatever work's. Nobody has said, what your mask has too look like.

If you have a medical condition that makes it impossible for you to wear a mask. Stay home you shouldn't be out shopping

Weren’t we just talking about not judging other people? Mind your business, and stop trying to dictate who needs to stay home.

I would imagine people with difficulty breathing or are on oxygen find it difficult to wear masks. What other conditions are there? I’m curious?  
 
Telling people with medical issues who can’t wear a mask to stay home is not fair as some of these people are often already socially isolated because of their condition. It is in our nature as humans to want to socialize or be around other people. That is apart of maintaining a our mental health.
