U.S. Cross Border Shopping Price Comparison
12/20/2009 at 10:41 AM
Looking for peoples opinions and purchasing experiences from buying in United States as opposed to here in Canada. I've gotten to the point where all major purchases are from across the line. I have been importing both commercially and personally for many years so have background as to wholesale costs from U.S. and what prices are marked up by when sold to local consumers.
Here is one example: top of line all season Michelin truck tires (set of 4)in Canada $1,320.00...in U.S. $660.00 with free shipping and free replacement air pressure sensors. Prices in CDN Dollars, and prices vary, but not by much.
Note: these tires were manufactured in Japan so would have been in either case imported into North America.
These discrepencies are hard to ignore, even when considering the different tax systems of the two countries.
Objective of this thread is to make consumers and retailers more aware and maybe spark some price competitiveness along with actual cash savings for the consumer, or at least offer more purchasing choices.
