hi,  
as of late value village has lost my business for reasons that i won't get into here. what other options are there for both donating and buying gently used items in the brandon area?

Not sure about buying (I don't get around to perusing the second hand stores as much as I used to) but I like donating to the nearly new by Superstore. They really appreciate the donations. All the profits go to the hospital I think, so its nice to keep it within

I believe their bins go to Value Village. (could be mistaken)

Samaritan House on Pacific

Nearly New for sure to donate and purchase. You may also consider donating to the womens shelter and Samaratin house.

Don't forget there's also MCC on Pacific. I usually alternate my donations between Nearly New & MCC, although if I have a bag of stuff that I think Samataritan House could especially use I'll occasionally drop stuff there too.

Another vote for Nearly New for donating/purchasing. The staff is great and I love that the proceeds stay in the community. They may not have the quantity of Value Village, but still a fairly good selection.  
 
Another second-hand clothing place that I like to shop is Abbey Rose on Rosser. They have a consignment section upstairs with good quality clothing/accessories and have reasonable prices (smaller selection).

I no longer donate to VV either, the prices are out of control. I now donate to Nearly New, I would rather my donations make money for the Hospital, which we will all need sooner or later.

If you are going to donate to Nearly New or MCC check with them first because sometimes they are overloaded and don't take donations.

Would appreciate if this discussion had the purpose of answering the OP's question of alternative options as opposed to turning into a broadside on a particular named business. thx

I have seen first hand the good work that the Nearly New shop does at the hospital. It is my understanding that it is run by the Ladies Auxilary so it is all volunteer. These ladies work hard and do a great job. They have given so much back to the hospital buying all kinds of equipment. They will get my donations 100% of the time.

I love the MCC thrift store. Every Wednesday they roll the dice to get a percentage off your purchase as well. The Nearly New store by Superstore has lots of very nice stuff as well lots of formal dresses upstairs and wedding dresses.

I usually to Nearly New, due to location and hours open. They don't take electronics though - even if working. I have not done MCC as there hours make it difficult for me to get to. Though I have not checked in a while, and perhaps they have better hours (for my schedule). And if it is something Samaritan house needs - there the items are going directly where they are needed. Check with them first - otherwise they have to store them till they can have a "Garage sale" to convert it into money.

Also dont forget to check out Abby Rose. It does consignment. So it has some used clothing as well as new items.

They have a small second hand store run by volunteers. Their prices are next to nothing and really benefit families in need. They will even give items for free to families in dire and extreme need. 255 9th Street (downtown)

When MCC couldn’t accept any donations they advised me to go to the restore on Rosser. I was cleaning up an estate and were very happy to accept my treasures.  
 
What they couldn’t sell I dropped off at dump

Is now accepting donations again.

I donate to nearly new also. Volunteer run. All profits go to buying equipment for the hospital. Keeping it local.
