I was at best buy today behind a young lady who was buying a fitbit blaze. They encouraged her to buy warranty ($50 for 2 years) and gave her the whole spiel. So she took out more cash to get it.  
 
Any fitbit product already has a year warranty for free. They are really good to deal with too. I felt like saying something but didn’t think it was my place. If anything is going to go wrong with it it’s a safe bet it’ll happen within the first year.....  
 
So maybe she’ll see this and get a refund on her money as it was a needless upgrade. Or maybe it will be a good warning for other people. Wish I had said something and could have saved her the $50!

When you have issues with your device and have that 2 year warranty with Best Buy, you bring it to them and they deal straight with that company (in this case Fitbit) , so really yes it's kinda silly how you pay 50$ when you already have 1 year, but 50$ for an extra year isn't too bad, expecially considering you won't have to do any of the hassle of sending stuff away , or anything, as their customer service does it. That being said , I've never bought extended warranty lol

that's what they are trained to do and how they make some extra cash. Very encouraged too up sell. Never shopped there and never will for that very reason.

The warranties sold by these stores are a rip off plain and simple. Half the money of the sold warrenty goes into the pocket of a salesman where as, on item itself they make a few dollars...  
 
Bathtub curve lifecycle for electronics shoes that electronics fail often early into their use and fail often at the end of their lifecycle. If it works for a month or two it’s likely going to last beyond the warrenty period.

Has their opinion. How many people have had their electronics fail on the 13th month?? And if you don’t shop at certain places because they upsell, does that mean you don’t buy certain trucks because the dealer tries to sell you extended warranty. I hardly think so. Sometimes everyone is an expert at purchasing. Lol

I used to work for best buy. They are hourly and there is no commission there at all no bonuses.  
 
The replacement warranty on fitbits are just a money back replacement. They don't deal with Fitbit although Fitbit is very great to deal with. It's a simple money back guarantee on those types of products.  
 
Items like tvs appliances computers and some cameras are an actual service plan where they fix or repair the device and if it's too costly to repair it they replace it.  
 
Personally some products they offer those additional plans on don't need them. I had a Fitbit and it messed up 8 months in they replaced it. Next one was just a few days after the 1 year mark and they didn't do anything for me. So it's a gamble either way you go.  
 
But believe it or not, none of the people there make any commission or bonuses.

I also thought the warranty was silly , we purchased a tv last year and they talked us into it so we paid a lot extra. Well 1 month after our 1 year warranty was up the tv broke. So thankfully we had the extended warranty . I don't ever get warranty on items less then $200 but things like the tv which was $2000, it was great.

If you have any issues with fitbit you only need to email them and they will mail you a new one/ replacement part. So she’s being charged $50 for something she doesn’t need for the ‘convenience’ of best buy to take two seconds to email fitbit.  
 
When I bought mine at sportchek they even said there’s nothing they can do. It’s best if you contact fitbit directly and even had a little card with the contact info. Some good customer service that best buy could learn from in my opinion...

FitBit of course has a one year warranty. But they’ll replace it out of warranty up to 2 years no questions asked. A one off offer..  
 
Extended warranty’s are all profit based and rarely used on modern electronics. Unless you’re buying a high end item like a $4000 etc then a $200 makes sense. Otherwise just throwing away your money.

My credit card offers an extra year warranty. The annual credit card fee is $50.

For larger purchases it might make sense but for majority it is just a cash grab. They don’t care about helping you, just taking your money!

I can't speak for best buy, but our product protection plans kick in after any product warranty you get with the initial purchase. I buy into them for certain purchases myself within my store.
