Wondering if anyone has switched from electric heat to gas? Has it made a huge difference in your hydro bill? Is it worth it? What was the cost to do so? Any info or experiences with this would be great! Thanks!

There will be a carbon tax on natural gas come fall. So expect rate to be hiked quite a bit.

Best to wait and see how much the carbon tax is.  
 
But in general if you only change your furnace it will not make a huge difference. Depending on what you call huge. Your summer bill will be exactly the same.

Gasoline 5.32 cents a litre  
Natural gas 4.74 cubic meter  
Diesel 6.17 litre  
Propane 3.87 litre

when calculating savings the repairs to the gas equipment seems to be ignored , the units are very mechanical and will need replacement at some point and some repairs before replacement , some of these repairs will be expensive . an electric furnace is quite simple and fairly easy to repair.

One other thing to consider is that if you are only electric hydro charges 1.5% pst. If you have electric and gas you pay 8% on everything.

Manitoba Hydro will be raising rates by around 7% per year for the next few years. Electricity will be very expensive soon.

no it's only 5.32 cents a litre , example gas would go from 1.139 now to roughly 1.195 a litre

For the information kind of sounds like no matter what things are looking expensive in the future!

I had the same question 7 years ago...couldn't get a straight answer. At that time I switched from gas to electric as the furnace was much cheaper. After 4 years of the electric furnace and double the utility bill we switched back to a high efficiency gas furnace. What a difference...my utility bill dropped by almost 50% again. I believe manitoba hydro still has a cost calculator on there website that gives you guideline as to the savings.

I should have added the way the comment was worded made it sound like that. In no way do I believe that gas could ever hit that lol
