GFCI conversion kit

We are changing the old razor plug in a bathroom to a GFCI outlet and need a conversion kit. Who would sell one in Brandon? Already checked Home Depot and Home Hardware with no luck.

robinson lighting and bath on van horne about 400 block, not the show room the contractor building just to the west. they sell to private individuals and will have stuff that the corner hardware stores dont have. actually cheaper too. I was pricing out led pot lights and they were way less than HD

eccol electric too not sure about privates buying there though.

I don’t think it’s actually a kit you are looking for....it’s just a matter of taking out the standard receptical and replacing it with a GFI receptical. Also make sure you understand the correct wiring instruction.

My husband (an electrician) says you need a conversion kit, from Home Depot, likely around $15-20. Then the GFCI which is separate.

As the old razor plug is probably installed in a double-gang box (two standard boxes put together), you could do like the previous owners in my house did: buy a GFCI outlet, a double-gang Decora cover and a Decora light switch that switches the power to the GFCI (should use a Decora blank plate instead of the switch, but they didn't).

Why not just install a ground fault breaker? It’s what’s required in the electrical code now instead of gfi plugs anyway

Remove everything associated with the razor plug.

Use a regular gfci and an extra large faceplate. Search the Homedepot website for 06198-724

There is no where in the Canadian electrical code that says ground fault breakers are required, the plugs are perfectly fine and a fraction of the price. And yes depending on the type of box used you will need a conversion kit, odds are it’s a 4x4 square box with a 1:1 transformer inside it for the razor plug.

Hadn’t had my coffee yet, my eyes thought you were saying no gfci plug. Which in turn is code 26-700(11)

Yes definitely still need gfi protection but doesn’t have to be a breaker like someone above was stating, I don’t remember the last time I’ve even installed a gfi breaker other than for a hot tub
