I assume mb hydro wanted to get rid of old, possibly hazardous furnaces that are decades old so they offered the program, not intending to replace everyone's newer furnace all willy nilly "
Hydro had a program to replace furnaces and guess what? Whoever got one replaced did indeed pay for the unit through their monthly Hydro bill. You'd be surprised at the people, even people with deep pockets, who took advantage of the old program. No one can live without a furnace in their home. You can pay for your new shower or do without!
Plus...... since the old program was shelved all natural gas customers got some money back monthly, maybe you were one, because they company made so much money from the program PUB ordered then to credit ALL natural gas customers.
Even though I did NOT get a new furnace from this program i was helping pay for others, which I had no problem with doing so.
There's a lot of people out there who don't have the cash for a new furnace, maybe you're not one of them, congratulations!
Just in case you don't realize this fact.... bathroom renos and a new shower are WANTS, not needs like a home heating system!
The original poster stated that his furnace was thirty years old so I guess standard efficiency furnaces, if there are any left, will be fifty years old? Probably leaves the majority of consumers out of qualifying for the new program. Hmm... which was no doubt the intent of this previous government!
