Probably no need to hire an HVAC company...

A good handyman can easily install or replace a dryer vent and could easily replace an air exchanger and or it's vent. I would think only if were installing an air exchanger for the first time that you would need the expert help of an plumbing & heading company. Granted that, although probably more money, the HVAC guy could do it faster and has the ability to recommend other changes to be done make things better, safer and more efficient. An example of this is a service guy might recognize the old dryer line is in poor and/or unsafe condition and will tell you to replace it, while some handymen might just do whatever you tell them to do. A lot will boil down to what kind of person that comes to your door. Someone with knowledge and experience that can make the determination of what can/should be done or someone who is there to make a buck and get it done as fast as they can. That doesn't mean you should go with a Plumbing & Heating company just because they may have service people with training and/or experience, but to do your homework and find either a company or a person that you can trust that know what they are doing and have the qualifications to back it up. My handy guy is gone, so I can't say who to get and the local HVAC companies have lately been "hit and miss" with their service people. All I can advise is to ask the right questions and know your options. Do you have and references? Should I replace the dryer line or anything else? Will the opening around the vents be sealed and insulated from the outside? What kind of vent do I need? What are the options? What else should or could be done? How long will this take? Can all of this be done by you? How much could this add up? Can you foresee any problems that could arrive from doing this? What guarantee or warranty do you have? Ask these basic questions to either a company or a private individual and try to get a good vibe or instinct and go with that.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
