We bought a new fridge approx 6 months ago and are now due to change the water filter for the first time. It's our first time ever owning a fridge with a water dispenser, so I have a question for those who own one... Do you purchase the genuine filter from the manufacturer? Or is a knock-off just as good?  
 
The ones from the manufacturer are $50 each: I can get 3 knock-offs for about $40. If I have to buy genuine, I will, but if there is no noticeable difference anyone has found, I could save a decent amount of money over the life of the fridge.

you find there is no appreciable difference, other than price.

Just be sure the knock off filter doesn't negate your warranty.

I never would have thought of checking that. Thank you!! I'll be sure to check that first!

the warranty police are always checking my fridge, to see what brand of filter I use. They come around every other Friday!

where do you buy the knock off filters from ?

I found some on Amazon: just typed in the number for the filter from the manufacturer and a whole bunch came up.  
 
When I searched for the filter from the manufacturer from Home Depot, a couple others also showed up at the bottom of the screen in the "you may also like..." (or whatever it's actually called) section once I clicked on the manufacturers filter.

Just do a reset saying you changed the filter, fridge doesn’t know the difference. I do that a couple times just to get the warning off

could always keep the original filter and if you need a warranty claim just put it back in to replace any non manufacturer ones.
