Hello people, I'm looking for people's real experiences with in floor heat in a insulated pole shed or garage. What does it actually cost to heat a building and what size? Electric boiler or propane? (no Nat gas available where I am). Is it enough without any other heat source? I will be definitely insulating under the slab if I do it, my building will be 30x40x12. Thanks In advance!

30x40 20' ceiling pole shed. Last month the infloor electric heat ran the entire month at 40F the lowest setting.  
 
$318 hydro bill including the house in the same period. The house is heated with firewood primarily.  
 
 
You can also get a outdoor wood boiler to heat your shop which could be cheaper in the long run.

I put pipe in the cement when I poured the floor.  
 
I haven’t attached a thermostat yet. I have to circulating pump hooked to a timer. I have it run 15 minutes intervals about five or six times in a 24 hour. I am not sure what it costs. In cold weather it easily holds well above freezing.  
 
 
If I want to work on something or am moving cold vehicles in, I bypass the timer. I am very happy with my system.

My shop is 28x30 and I keep it at 15 degrees in the winter and I work in it all day, No extra heat source needed, mine is a small electric broiler.  
Not sure the cost as it is in with my house and we are on the equal payment plan.

Built a shop exactly that size in 2011. Heat with 6kw at 10 deg C all year. I am on EPP for hydro at 215/month. House and shop. Do burn a bit of wood in house. Well insulated slab under and sides, 6 inch stud walls and lots in attic.

A 24 x 40 x10 with 9kw at 10 deg C all year. I am on EPP for hydro at 262/month. House and shop. Well insulated slab under and sides, 6 inch walls with R20 and R40 with 1 foot of blown in cellulose in attic. Never gets hotter than 70 degrees in the summer with doors closed.
