HAGD said "wise to call a few roofers, as one roofer says that some homes that are a story and a half don't have enough air circulation due to lack of attic space and can cause ice jams, like those war time homes. Just what he told me. Best to ask a professional as I am not one. "
I find this line of logic a bit interesting. Pre-finished metal roofing rarely, if ever, experiences ice damming because of it's smooth texture and finish, compared to asphalt shingles or cedar shakes. In fact, you might commonly see ridges installed perpendicular to the roof's pitch to prevent snow and ice from sliding off the metal roof over doorways and entrances.
With that said, ventilation can always be added to the soffit and gable ends of just about any roof.
Common side affects of metal roofs can be louder than usual noise from heavy rain and hail. Poorly installed metal roofing can result in leaks from poorly applied fasteners, and poorly planned valleys...but this is true with just about any roof.
As mentioned, it's always a good idea to speak to a qualified and experienced contractor who has installed a few metal roofs in their time.
