painting hardwood floors

I bought a house and it had ugly green carpet. I ripped it out only to find untouched, unstained, original hardwood. We cant afford to get it done, nor can we afford to hire someone to install laminate. So, we decided that we'd paint it white. Since then (and we haven't done it yet)everyone has an opinion and tells us what to do and how to do it. I'd like an easy way to do this, any ideas??
