I'm assuming your check-valve is in the vertical position. before installing, especially if it has been used and put away all winter, I use W-40 to ensure it is functioning smoothly. Make sure it is installed in the proper direction. Once this is on, I hace a 2' piece of threded pipe the same size as the check-valve that I thread into it. Again, assuming everything at this time is vertical. Then I install the old fashioned hand pump. Fill it with water to prime it, and once you start pulling water from the ground, it's very important to hand pump until the water is fairly clear. Then slowly undo the pump/pipe (to make sure you don't loose that water sitting on top of the check valve, or it's back to square one.) Sand point and check-valve are ready to be piped to the pump. (Another story!)
