I'm on a total refurbishing kick right now as I just discovered chalk paint. It's fan-fricking-tastic!!!! lol I repainted an old dresser & didn't have to sand or prime it! Easy peasy! I went to Home Depot and the sweet girl there told me there have been a number of people looking for it but they don't carry it. I finally found it at Benjamin Moore. I bought it and LOVED it!. I found it a tad expensive so I have found a recipe online to make your own. I shall let you all know how it turns out. If I can figure out how to post pics here I'll post a pic of the dresser I painted. OH and I did inform the girl at Home Depot so she can direct them to Benjamin Moore. After the next dresser I am going to redo my very old kitchen cabinets.

I have been interested in this as well, just haven't had time to pursue it. Can you post the instructions or give the link for the homemade chalk paint?

What makes chalk paint better than other (regular) pain for refinishing? I like to re-do old wood furniture and such, but have never tried chalk paint.

Mix 1/3 cup Plaster Of Paris (Home Depot) with 1/3 cup COOL water.  
Stir until completely smooth  
Mix in 1 cup of latex paint  
Mix thoroughly

When you use chalk paint you don't have to sand or primer the piece you are painting. Just make sure the piece is clean! The paint sticks to most surfaces, like if you have an old dresser that is press board or laminate instead of wood.  
The paint also looks reeeeeally nice if you distress with it.

Ooooohhh!! That is really cute! I presume that chalk paint is a matte finish, am I correct? I used a matte finish for a set of night stands that I repainted, but didn't like how the finish holds onto dust and such. Do you find the chalk paint attracts dust and finger prints? Is it easy to clean?

Why don't I see any? I am interested in chalk painting re-furb as well but am so chicken of screwing up the piece!!

If you love chalk paint you should try Fat Paint. Its canadian made and so easy to work with. I have been using it for years. You have to but it in winnipeg or get it shipped to you, but its so worth it. goes on so nice and sands off eazy. They also have a wax to use as a top coat. Love this Paint!!

After I paint I put on a coat of wax to help protect it, and it did gather finger prints but they are only visible in photos!

I just looked at the Fat Paint website and it looks awesome!!! Is it expensive to purchase & ship? Honestly the Chalk Paint I bought was $45 / quart & my homemade was $23/ quart ( it only took 1/2 quart to do a 9 drawer dresser)

Its not to bad look up marmies emptys nest on facebook and talk to twila and she could give you all the info you need. Tell her charlette sent you. I also know a lady sells it in the forks in winnipeg. I just love this stuff. really nice to work with.

on what color you want to show through when you distress it. I just sanded mine & let the original color of the dresser show through

You can order online: it's available in numerous colours. Plus, there is a clear wax and dark wax. No prepping/priming of wood furniture required. I have painted numerous pieces around my house. when I read an article online & it talked about Annie Sloan, & I have watched some of the tutorials ,but I looked online and it's quite expensive between $40 -$45 for a quart. When I discovered the homemade recipe online it was because I was looking for a cheaper brand
