We live in a bi-level with electric baseboard heat (no duct work). Our wall-mount air conditioner (essentially a window unit mounted through the wall) is no longer cooling, although the fan continues to run properly. Nothing appears out of the ordinary: the unit is clean & there is no ice build up. I suspect that the refrigerant has leaked out. The same thing occurred 2 summers ago, & we had it repaired. The repair cost us $150.00, but took more than 9 months to complete!  
 
We are leaning towards a replacement unit, but are not opposed to repairing it again, if financially feasible. I would like to discuss the installation of a brand new air conditioner (or potentially, the repair of our existing one) with a highly qualified & strongly recommended individual or business. Our home, in Brandon, is 1040 square feet (above ground level). Ideally, we are looking for a through-the-wall unit, similar to most older apartment buildings. We already have the hole in the wall, after all: however, we are willing to consider other options. We would sure appreciate some direction from anyone who has personal experience with this! Thank you!

I hope you are able to find someone to come out for you during this heat - unfortunately they may all be pretty hopping right now.

We got ours with westside. Same story, we have no duct work and have baseboard (water) heat. With install I believe ours was a little over 3 thousand, including electrical wiring and all the cutting through the house etc. I would assume much less if you are just replacing the unit. Maybe you only need the outdoor piece as well since the indoor fan works still? Try westside but I have also heard good things about rays fireplace. Might depend what model you have right now and who services them? Ours is a Lennox.

Have you measured the dimensions of the current air conditioner and looked at what's available? I would change it out and call it a day. We had ours go years ago and just replaced the unit ourselves.  
 
I even wanted to put a bigger unit in and we made the hole bigger ourselves and put a new unit in.  
 
What's around the hole on the outside? Of its trim, just remove inside and outside trim, cut away insulation and remove.

We just had our ductless a/c unit fixed by capital mechanical. They came fast to diagnose the problem and fixed it the same day. we had a Freon leak and it was about a 600$ fix.

Does anyone in an apartment or condominium have any recommendations? The type of unit we require would be very similar to those used in older apartment/condo buildings.
